From his early days growing up in Iran to leading one of New Jersey’s fastest-growing public universities, Dr. Houshmand’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and heart.

About Dr. Ali Houshmand
Dr. Houshmand has served as President of Rowan University since 2012. Born in Iran, he overcame early hardships to pursue education abroad, eventually earning a Ph.D. in industrial and operations engineering. Under his leadership, Rowan has expanded dramatically growing enrollment, launching major academic initiatives, and becoming one of only a few universities nationwide to offer both M.D. and D.O. degrees. He is also known for his creative support of students, including selling “Houshmand’s Hazardous Hot Sauce” to raise scholarship funds.
