What to Watch & Read Now – April – May 2025

We catch up on TV shows and books worth watching and reading now that everyone’s moved beyond White Lotus and Severance theories.

What We’re Watching and Reading Lately (aka Your Next Binge List)

We’re back! After a little break from our usual book and show banter, we couldn’t resist jumping back in to share what’s been lighting up our screens—and our nightstands—lately. From dark comedies and spy capers to heartwarming reality TV and literary gems, here’s what we’ve been loving.

📺 They Lived Up to the Hype: White Lotus & Severance

Let’s start with the big ones. White Lotus and Severance—two shows that had everyone buzzing. We didn’t want to rush our takes (no live-Tweeting every twist here!), so we sat with these a bit. Verdict? They’re both wild rides with flaws and brilliance in equal measure. Think sharp storytelling, big ideas, and moments that had us saying, “Wait… WHAT just happened?”

🕵️‍♂️ For the Fun of It: The Recruit

Need something with less existential dread and more “that was fun!” energy? Try The Recruit on Netflix. It’s about a newbie CIA lawyer who stumbles into serious spy business, and it somehow manages to be funny, fast-paced, and just chaotic enough. A total popcorn watch, in the best way.

❤️ All the Feels: Love on the Spectrum

We’re completely smitten with Season 3 of Love on the Spectrum. It’s one of those rare reality shows that leaves you genuinely uplifted. The people are charming, the connections feel real, and the whole thing radiates kindness. It’s a reminder that love stories come in all forms—and they’re all worth watching.

📚 Book Break! First Up: Blackwood’s Blue Sky by Eowyn Ivey

If you’re in the mood to get lost in a beautifully written novel, Blackwood’s Blue Sky is the one. Set against the rugged Alaskan landscape, it’s about love, survival, and finding connection in the unlikeliest places. Ivey fans (hi, Snow Child lovers), you won’t be disappointed.

🚗 Hit the Road: Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles

Towles does it again. Lincoln Highway is a cross-country journey set in the ’50s, filled with quirky characters and big heart. Two young guys get out of juvie and hit the road—what could go wrong? It’s thoughtful, funny, and full of those perfect little moments that stick with you.

🍽️ Behind the Celeb Chefs: Care and Feeding by Laurie Woolever

Ever wonder what it’s really like to work with culinary icons like Anthony Bourdain and Mario Batali? Laurie Woolever spills it all in Care and Feeding. It’s part memoir, part behind-the-scenes peek at the wild world of food media, with some raw truths about addiction, pressure, and finding your place in it all.

That’s a Wrap!

So whether you’re looking to cry, laugh, gasp, or just chill with a really good story, we’ve got you covered. Let us know what you’re watching or reading—we’re always up for more recommendations. Until next time: happy streaming, happy reading, and don’t forget to hit pause and take it all in.
